I had one a few years ago on my first tank. Didn't have any fish-diseases
afterwards (did before though; whitespot) but it didn't stop undesirable
algae. Perhaps infrequent water changes while working away from home
contributed to that?
I'm setting up a new tank and will be buying another within a few weeks. I
gather that any preventative benefit provided in neutralising parasites is
worth it. You'll need to buy another lamp every 6 to 9 months though. Be
very carefull not to look directly at the tube as it will have a detrimental
effect on your eyesight.
