I have a purple tang that has been doing fine for several months. However,
recently he has developed something around his eye, and it appears to also
be on a line on his side as well. It isn't white, maybe brown spots.
Anyway, I tried treating with Melafix and Pimafix, but that didn't work. I
did several water changes as well. Does anyone know what this might be and
how I can treat it? It doesn't appear to be ick or coral reef disease, but
I could be wrong. It isn't getting worse that I can tell and he is still
eating. All water parameters are normal. Any help you can give me would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am by no means an expert, on the contrary I'm just beginning in the
hobby. But that being said, I've done a lot of reading over the past
few months on the subject of marine fish. I found a website that has a
message board that has pictures of several common diseases. I might
recommend that you go to this link and search the page for HLLE. Look
at all of the pictures and see if that's what you have. That is a
disease that erodes the flesh around the eyes and down the lateral line
of the fish. Apparently it's caused by stress and other things.
Best of luck.
