View Full Version : Pump water Upstairs 14ft

October 14th 03, 11:54 PM
I have a 45 gal aquarium in my basement set up as a giant filter for
my two 45 gal sal****er aquariums in my living room.

My question is what kind of pump do I need to get to pump it 14 ft or
more in the air. All of the pumps I look at I don't think are really
designed for more than 4 or 5 feet.

Could I use a regular water pump used for a rural housing system? Or
do you need something salt proof?

Jesus!!!!

Get a little giant pump from Ace hardware that you can attach a garden hose
to... Mine pumps water 85 feet up two flights of stairs. I can push 60
gallons in a few minutes.

big. look up the flow specs and max head on a t4 or t5 pump. see
http://championlighting.com for these specs on lots of pumps.

Any pump will work but will not last too long due to salt environment. It
will get erode and break down. It better to get pump that design for
sal****er.

I have been using the little giant for over 8 months with no problems at
all.

If the pump dies, big ****ing deal... I'll go buy another one.

I don't think a $90 pump is a big ****ing deal in this hobby do you?

or you can get a real pump that is salt water safe, wont erode heavy metals into your
water AND will pump 60 gallons in OOH MY seconds instead of minutes, most of the real high
head pumps will have good output at 15+ feet instead of having to buy 2 pumps. dr F&S,
aquaticeco.com, marinedepot.com all sell them. if you go that route you will need to know
the minimum head, as a good high head pump will be rated for a min and a max head.

Oh my oh my... aren't you a real dip ****?

My top off water is pure RODI not salt water, dick munch. The pump rests in
one of those 60 gallon storage tanks I bought a while back. My pump pumps
water up once a month as previously described and works just fine. As I
said, if the ****er ever quits working... I'll just go buy another because I
can and couldn't give two ****s otherwise... other than to troll you.

If you top off your tanks with salt water... you're just as stupid as I
thought.

Depending on that person. It a big deal for some that only last for half
year and need to replace but since you have the buck, on that point-of-view,
then that does not mean anything. And for those with low budget, having
extra or backup and or returning the pump for warranty repair will cost
shipping. Also, having a extra or backup pump will consider a waste for
warranty since it just sitting or idle.

Again, maybe for you will consider no big deal but for other, it is.

My pump runs 24x7. I do not have a spare. I have a 4 inch attachment that
routes back into the storage tank which turns the tank over more times per
minute than I care to calculate. At any rate, the pump works as it was
designed.

FYI, most store operators use this same pump for the same purpose that I am
using it... pumping water from a storage container to their display tanks
when changing water. That's where I got the idea from in case you were
interested... only my water is pumped up to another storage container housed
behind my 125. The 60 gallons of water top off all of my tanks over a period
of 18 days.

It's funny when a troll comes up with a great solution to everyone's problem
and all the dickheads come out of the wood work to tell him why they
wouldn't set up this solution. The solution works for me and saves 45
minutes a day of toting 5 gallon water jugs to top off the sump, plus the
water is controlled (i.e. temperate, ph, alk, etc)

Dude DaTroll, topping off water with RO[DI] is fine but when pumping those
mix water will have salt will not be. Circulating only RO[DI] or without
salt are fine. But circulating water with salt than it is not.

No kidding... in my case... the water is RODI, not salt. when needing salt
water... I premix in a container next to the tanks and pump the water into
the tanks etc.... of course, I don't have to explain my method to water
changes... and since this post was obviously about water changes (it wasn't)
I will end my comments on this thread and go back to trolling.

Haven't heard much about the SPAM lately. Everyone still getting it?
