View Full Version : trapping a wrasse

I have a lunar wrasse that has become bit of a problem and I would like to
remove him from my tank. Unfortunately, I have a 450 gallon tank and cannot
(will not!) tear it down just to get him out. I have tried to catch him by
luring him to the net with food, but to no avail. Can anyone recommend a
trap that I can buy to remove him???
Thanks,
Anthony

If he is a good eater as many wrasses are, I'd suggest the acrylic tube &
trapdoor traps you can either buy or often borrow from the LFS. I've caught
many fish with these. I usually bait with mysis and leave the trap door
propped open (a glass of water on the string on top of the tank works for
this). When the right fish enter the trap, you release the string. Some fish
(like certain !@#%$ damsels) are too fast for this but most fish (and all
the wrasse I've ever kept) will enter sooner or later...

Mix 4 grams of Indian Head Aluminum with 12 grams of Potassium Perchlorate.
Add to water-proof container with water proof fuse (Visco American fuse will
be fine) light fuse, drop device in tank. Fish will surface due to
concussion.

Why not just pour a bottle of ammonia in instead? You can avoid the whole
"concussion" thing.
