View Full Version : Ailing fish

One of my goldfish has been kind of listless for the past week, dorsal fin
down, not too interested in eating, more actually floating around the tank
than swimming. This morning I hoticed that its usually white tail is taking
on the color of dark orange (the fish is orange). Is the beginning if ick?
If it isn't, any ideas on what it could be? Should I segregate him from the
other two fish?
Many thanks for your help....

That is probably an internal bacterial infection. I had a similar situation
in the past. The blood vessels swell, and the fish looks redder. I've lost 3
goldfish to this... so the earlier you start treatment, the better.

I live in a fairly rural area.....I'll definitely call a fish store (it's
kinda small and not well stocked) and ask for that. I also read up on
something called tail rot (which my aforementioned ailing fish is now
sporting black on its tail and one lower fin, but the fish is actually more
active than before and is finally coming up to eat. anyway the remedy for
tail rot was something like "copper" can't remember.
Thanks, G, for the tip on the MediGold........

Black on the tail and ripped fins could be water issues. What are your
ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels. Black could be ammonia burns healing.
