FErtilizer and CO2 questions

What is your experience with fertilizers and CO2? I am currently
experiencing algae on the glass of my tank and leaves.
I think is because water my dosing of fertilizers and CO2 is not the
correct, it is over what it should be. I use liquid CO2 and Tropical Master
GRow.
My tank is a 58G tank that has vals, differen types of swords, dwarf sag,
red ludwiga, and some other plants I can't remember there name. The light is
on for around 10-12 hrs a day.
What doses do you recommend? What can I do to save my plants and get rid of
the alage?

Start here and follow the links forward. A good portion of what people
repeat online are old discredited ideas. What works in a fish only isn't
what works in a planted tank.

Balanced nutrients are what work. What balanced is depends on your tank,
water and fish and plant load. Tom may not be the last word on the topic,
but his ideas are based on science and experimentation ..... and they work
better than anything else i've tried. They work for fish too, those of us
with health planted tanks find we have little or no trouble with ich and
other similar fish problems.

What kind of algae is it? (green, brown, stringy?) That might help
to know how to treat the algae you have now. Check out this site:

Another thing that affects algae growth other than ferts & CO2 is
the amount of light. What kind of bulbs do you have on this tank?
What are the watts per gallon? Is the tank in direct sunlight? Do
you have a phosphate test?

it is brown/dark alage. The brown algae is on the glass and the dark one on
the leaves of plants.
The bulb is the one that came with my tank. I am not sure how may watts per
gallon they give or exactly what kind of bulb.
Is not in direct sunlight. I need to get a phosphate kit. I will do so soon
and repost to see what you think.
Any other recommendations on fertilizer, type of bulbs, plants are welcome.

There is a slight possibly it's diatoms (brought on by silicates in the
water), anyone?

What I always heard or read many years ago concerning brown algae was
that it is caused by too little light; it thrives in low-light
conditions so it gets the upperhand in competition against green
algaes for example. I don't know this for a fact, though.
