View Full Version : Shy Corys

I have a few corys in my planted 75L tank. For over 3 months they were
highly entertaining as a group. About a month ago I noticed that a
female had plumped up and tried to catch it to isolate and save any
eggs. I was not successful in catching them because the tank being
heavily planted.

Since this 1/2 hour attempt at catching them all of them are
permanently in hiding!

Is this common??

Being chased around the tank by a net is not enjoyable for the fish.
If you leave them alone for a time, they will likely return to
previous behavior. This may take hours, or weeks, depending on how
badly stressed they were.

I'm also curious as to how many and what species you have. Some are much
more adaptable and outgoing then others, and usually the more there are in a
tank, the safer they feel.

....and why were you trying to catch the female?? Cories are egg-layers. Just
wait til they spawn and take them off the glass.

Yes. They'll return to normal in time. I had to move some otos after a
quarantine and even the otos that stayed in the quarantine didn't come
out for well over a week. Fish know exactly what nets are for.
