Hiya lbg, we had a similar problem in a larger tank, 100 litre (approx 60
gallon) had snail explosion too. Clowns are big eaters as we found when we
purchased 2 and go quickly about cleaning up the snails. They enjoy
themselves immensely! I'd suggest purchasing one for your tank and give it a
week. If it still is heavily populated with snails after a week, get
another. If you are setting up another tank they wont be in there too long
and will do an efficient job in the mean time. The clowns wont grow quickly
so you should find this option ammenable.

Buy at least two clowns if you go this route. Clowns are shoaling fish
and a lone clown will often refuse to eat and waste away. A pair
sometimes works, I like a trio, and many people with larger tanks who
post here wouldn't consider keeping fewer than 5 or 6.

Clowns are relatively slow growers and can have their growth inhibited
in overly small tanks by hormones they release into the water. I leave
it to the reader to decide whether stunted fish that "fit" a tank are
good or bad.

I just bought 2. $9 each at the LFS. I've got them in quarantine now.
They're still sulking over the move (4 hours ago). We'll see how they
do tomorrow. I really hate to get more, not only due to the cost, but
as I said, I hate to overload the tank any more than I have to.
