The HOT (Hang on Tank) Magnum filter is more like a canister, right? Can
you run it from ground level even though it is built to hang on tank?

If you could find hoses that wouldn't leak. I tried modifying one to
use hoses and still let me use the old ends, the intake and outlet
fittings in the tank. couldn't make it work. there was not enough
rigid plastic tube left after I cut it apart to connect the flexible
tubing I needed.
More work than it's worth, in my opinion

Ditto.... I tried something like this too.... I intend to try a
copper tube flair kit, a little heat, and some extra fittings to see
if I can get it to work.
so far, no luck though.
