Eheim Wet/Dry 2227 Canister Filters? Are they better than regular
cannister filters?

Yes and No. Bacteria supposedly thrive better in the cyclic conditions it
provides and is more efficient. Getting the float to continually work can be
a hit and miss affair and if it does stick, can sometimes leave half your
substate suspended in the air to dry out, more often as not it would stick '
full'. It was a pain in the arse everyday, to have to watch the float for
thirty seconds to make sure it was cycling.

The mechanical filtration is non existant and is provided by a rubbish
sleeve for the filter inlet, which if you have a load of anything over a
couple of hundred litres gets clogged VERY quickly.

I got rid of mine after two years for two Rena XP3's and have never looked
back, and wouldn't have one again, but I'm sure there are those out there
who swear by them.

cheers

I've had mine for some years and yes indeed the original float system
used to control the wet and dry filtration is VERY effective and in my 4
foot tank has ony had to be cleaned out once every six - eight months.
It is a great filter and it beats the socks off anything I've used
before, undergravel, internal or external filters.

Take a look at http://www.shubunkin.btinternet.co.uk and see what you
can get with a good substrate, undergravel heater and co2, plus rainwater.
