I have a problem which i cant seem to stop. My fish both koi and
goldfish are jumping out of my pond, the largest one to jump was a wild
coloured koi of about 15 inches, right down to a small goldfish that
jumped out this morning and just made it due being held near the filter
outflow for 10 minutes!! i am worried one of my prized fish may do it
soon, i have seen some of them jumping but luckily in the middle of the
pond.
I have tested my water for all the possible problems and there appears
to be none!
there are no visible parasites either, all i can think is that they
could be chasing flys as they would in the wild.
Does anyone have any ideas that would help me stop them doing this.
Thanks.

How long have the fish been in the pond? New fish often try and jump out
of a new environment such as the pond.
Thanks,
Daniel

Could you post the water parameters, ammonia, nitrite, pH, KH, etc.? Have
there been any changes in the pond? How much water change have you made,
and when? This information would be helpful. If they have been in the pond
for a while, then there must be something wrong with the water or parasites
have gotten to them. If parasites, then you will need to have them scraped
and a microscopic evaluation done to identify the best treatment. If you do
not have a scope, then contact the BKKS for a local club member that can
help.

You might also check for any stray electricity from an underwater light or
pump.

Try giving them some cover like a large waterlily or large group of water
lettuce to hide under and feel secure. If you have nothing else use a
floating piece of Styrofoam.

I had shubunkins jumping this spring out of my 3 half-barrel setup and
got some good advice here. The situation was the same as yours - all
water tests were good and no reason for jumping fish. I changed 1/3 of
the water and added a unit of Boyd's Chemi Pure, a mixture of ion
exchange resins and carbon. The jumping stopped and hasn't resumed.
However, I'm sure you have many more gallons of water than I do, so I
don't know whether adding chemical filtration is practical.
