View Full Version : Horned Snail

I just got a horned snail and 2 blue hermit crabs. These are the only things
in my tank right now besides some LR. My concern is that the hermits seem
fine, moving around etc. but the snail basically buried himself halfway into
the sand when he 1st landed and hasn't moved since. I can see he is sucking
the side glass and is sitting there firmly. Is this normal? Or should he be
moving?

That sounds like a Fighting Conch to me. They bury themselves for a couple of
weeks, then travel more. Do you have a picture? Or does it look like this:

That looks like a whelk of some type which are normally carnavorous
snails. If you are setting up a reef tank I would suggest removing it.

The store I bought it from recommend it for a reef tank saying that he would
also help my current algae problem. I woke up this morning and he is now all
the way up the side of the tank so obviously he is doing alright after all.
I and going to try and get a better picture.

So he moved and has been moving but he seems to like being half out of the
water.
