Have tried the anti-bacteria formula suggested, I'm not sure of the
outcome. I have lost another fish - large open sore again (down to my
last 7), although it was probably ill beforehand.
I think I'm going to try a complete water change and treat the
remaining fish in a separate bath. I'm not sure what to do with my
plants though - as they might be harbouring the bacteria / virus. I am
starting to think virus, as I've treated it with a few anti bacteria
products (over some time now), with no success.
Of the remaining fish - 3 shubunkins and 4 orfe - 2 of the shubunkins
look to have pop-eyes and their scales are protruding - not flat to the
body, the other shubunkin looks fine, as do the orfe, but aren't feeding
very well.
Thanks.

From the description, you have several more fish that are near death. The
ones with the scales sticking out are suffering from dropsy, which is nearly
always fatal. Dropsy and the open sores are signs of bacterial infections,
and antibiotics are required to effect a cure. The cause of the bacterial
infections is generally some form of parasite, and a fish store or club
member with a microscope could identify the parasite and recommend a proper
treatment. If your fish store doesn't have a microscope, find another
store. They could also recommend proper antibiotic treatments. Since you
are in the UK, I don't know what is available for your use.

An antibiotic called Baytril is available from your vet but be aware
that very few vets know about fish and they may need to talk to a
colleague first. Baytril is absorbed through skin tissue and can be
used in the pond where netting and injecting the fish isn't practical.
