Katrina headed anywhere close to you? Looking at the size and intensity, I
think it looks like it might be pretty bad where you are. If so, take cover
and take care.

Yea, were right within the area its forecast to pounce on. I hate to
say it buty I Hope it continues on in pretty direct northern direction
once it makes landfall but most of the times right after landfall they
usually make that ever so nice curve back east. They told us here that
as little as 25 miles difference in where the eye falls on land can
make a big difference as to what we could expect here. Katrina could
just be the storm of the century....Its already equala to Hurricane
Camile in terms of wind speeds and catagopry and mb of pressure, but
the awesome thing is Katrina is over two times larger than Camille
was. There is also talk of the eyewall, doing what Hurricane Ivan did,
and that was a quick regeneration of 4 to 6 hours instead of the
typical 10 to 16 hours. A quick regeneration of the eye would allow it
to maintain and gain strength, where a longer regeneration would make
it fall back a considerable amount, and at the speed its traveling it
would not have time to gain its current strength back........NOAA and
NHC is posting the waters this storm is in and going into is warm, and
the temps they give are over 6 to 8 degrees different (lower) than
what we just had in those same areas a few days ago, and it certainly
has not cooled down in the Gulf that quick. There was a bunch of
sportfishing boats with all the latest and greatest equipment on them
having a tournament in this same exact area, and they all said water
temps are much higher than is being reported.........so thats even
worse.......Seems no matter what it is, Uncle Sam never ever really
gives you all the true and pertinenet facts. When Dennis came in this
year, they had it reported as a high CAT 3/Low4, for over 10 hours
with mb pressures well below what a CAT 5 would be, and their wind
sample speeds were taken and given to the public from the opposite
quadrant (SW) in stead of the (NE) quadrant......This ineffect makes
all readings and tables show it as a storm of lower magnitude, when
infact the readings at the right quadrants and mb put it in as a CAT 5
many hours earlier..Heard NOAA and NHC and others got their hands
slapped for their missinformation, and the statement that heck a human
is not going to differenciate between a CAT 4 or CAT5 so there was no
sense in setting off even further panic...FEMA supposedly told them,
as well as higher ups in the government agencies, they need to report
what is the facts and not worry about setting off panic, and FEMA is
the folks that handle panics and evacuations not NOAA.....There was a
really good writup and posted correspondence concerning their not
stating what was the truth on Weatherunderground....
Oh well anyways I think were in for a good ride, but we got everything
battened down, lots of junk food, cold beer, ice, bottled water, gas
and generators all ready to go, and a pond full of water and probably
more on the way. Thing is these storms for us are o ver in a matter of
a few hours time most of the time anyhow, unless its like old slow
poke Ivan was, but once it gets up north or inland a few states away
they just set and linger dumping a huge amount of water in places like
the states in the Northeast, amnd their devastation is longer and
sometimes worse....I still have property on the gulf Coast (right off
the beach on a bluff).house is long gone from previous hurricane, and
all we keep there now is a spot so we can have a place to put our
camping trailer and keep our boat. This time we elected to leave it
since its landing further west,........may be a decision I regret if
it tracks more to the east, but the call was made and now all we can
do is see what happens......This gulf coast pan handle area has quite
a few little forums setup where folks in target area usually go and
post pertinenet info and latest updates.....so we are pretty well kept
abreast of whats going on. I do feel bad for New Orleans, as I believe
they are gonna take one serious hammering with Katrina.........This
could just be the Mother of All Storms so far. Right now, its holding
in 3rd or 4th place in intensity and mb readings, and #2 in size......
Thanks for the concern.its much appreciated.......
