Marc, Marc, Marc... you fell for this Mexican snail as a newbie...
Yes, it looks beautiful - it captured mine attention as well.
But it will not survive in your tropical reef. Like it did not in any of our tanks for long.
I had 3 of them kept at 78-79F and they died one by one in a period of 4-5 months.
They really DO need colder water to survive, Marc.
This is yet another animal LFS should not sell for our tropical reef tanks.
But the snail is so beautiful that customer cannot resist, even with a high price to pay...
Good luck.

LOL
If you'll read the text accompanying that Octopus shot, you'll note I don't have it nor did I
want it.

Hmmm. I guess I didn't make it as clear as I thought. The vendor bought it for himself, and
has had them in the past. I think he's nuts, but he doesn't seem to worry about it.

Are you talking about the Wavy Turban perhaps? It's still munching away on the glass, but I was
told by others it wouldn't survive. When I bought it, no-one had seen one before and everyone
got so excited. LOL
I remember posting the pictures here asking if anyone knew the name, a few months ago. I only
bought the one for $4.99

No, I am talking about read-foot mexican snail...
Multiple people reported it likes colder waters.
You ask "Why don't we all have these?!?"
The reason is simple - they do not survive well in tropical reef.

Yes, I'd never seen them before, and the LFS had hundreds of them. I put one in each of my tanks,
and one is still alive. I actually expected the one in the 29g to survive as that tank runs cooler
and is more stable typically, but it died.
I recently bought a new Salifert Nitrate kit, and the nitrates in that tank were much higher than the
previous kit reported. So it could have died from excessive nitrates.
