Roy,
I see you are back on line. What was the extent of damage in your area? I
have been worrying about you. If I remember right, you said the camper and
boat were at the gulf property, so I assume they are no more, but with the
change in direction of the storm, I wonder about the pond and the rest of
the property.

Hi Rich....
We moved the boat and camper......They are fine.. Its things like
Katrina etc that was the deciding factor not to rebuild the house
there, and it would have been for sure it would have been history all
over again and it wouild have been gone this time as well as it would
have been with Ivan last year. About all we got here was some good
winds in the 50 and low 60's mph range lots of rain and gusts in the
low 70's...mainly trees and tree limbs, about like when Ivan hit only
on a much reduced scale...Biggest headache was the scattered random
tornadoes just coming out of nowhere........Power went out that
morning about 11 am, and things were not really all that bad as of
yet, nothing worse than a typical southern thunderstorm. It stayed off
until early the next morning........and other than that it was just
another day, thank goodness.
So my pond is fine, if I can ever find it wirth the grass so high
again......which is only gonna make things worse for getting up limbs
etc......but what the heck it could have been much worse. So did y'all
get any weather out of Katrina? You live in Virginia IIRC, east or
west or?
Not more than a month or two I just finished helping an old friend of
mine in his late 70's put on a roof, that has had a tarp on it since
Ivan hit..........That was mainy his only damages other than trees..A
tear off or remaining roof and rafters and redoing it was too small a
job for all the contractors and he could not get anyone to put a roof
on for him......they were all too wrapped up in big money
doings.......so I and another friend went and did it for him.....Now
its history all over but this time his house is gone..............Just
where do you draw the line on starting over at the age of 77......I
feel really bad about his house etc......
I appeciate your concern,.
Regards
Roy

Roy,
Glad to hear that everything is in good shape. We live near Richmond
and we didn't get anything from this one. In 1969, Camille gave us
some serious 100 year flooding, and this one came in at the same place,
but stayed well west. Camille killed more people in Virginia than it
did along the gulf, if I remember correctly.
I hope the recovery moves quickly. I know the areas along the gulf
will be a long time just getting cleared. Many roads and bridges need
to be repaired, houses or remains of houses cleared, and much of that
before power is restored. Have a good one.
