Hi All,
Went fish shopping to buy my son Matt some YoYo Loaches as part of his
birthday present (I'm fed up with the snails in his tank). Released the fish
and seem to have gained a Pearl Danio which is swimming frantically around
right now like a headless chicken at the top of the tank.
I don't really know anything about Danios as I've never really thought about
keeping them before....I'm wondering if the behaviour of this Danio might be
down to it being on its own or whether it will settle down. Any ideas? From
a Google I see that they are a schooling fish....is it a case of this one
freebie costing me another trip to the LFS to get it some friends?
Tank is 30gall (UK) - ammonia, nitrites all 0 - Fluval 204 external
Current occupants are:-
2 Pearl Gouramis
5 Harlequins
1 Glowlight Tetra (that really needs a friend but schools with the
Harlequins)
4 "Home Grown" Mollies
4 YoYo Loaches (since 30 mins ago)
1 Pearl Danio (I think)
Thanks
Gill

Think I've answered my own question and this is not normal. Just rescued the
Danio as it was being nibbled by one of the Pearl Gouramis - after a hasty
movement of the Neons from the QT tank - the Danio has taken up residence.
It is currently still near the top swimming upside down. Had to turn off the
filter as it was getting sucked up into it.
So has anyone got any ideas what might be wrong with it? Is it possible it
got hurt by one of the YoYos during the stress of transportation? Or might
it have gone into shock when added into the tank? There were no signs of any
sick fish at the LFS (different one to where I bought the poor Clowns). I've
put some Stress Coat in the QT tank but hestitate to put anything further in
until I have a clearer idea of what might be wrong - that is of course if it
makes it...

Danios always swim frantically back and forth like there's no
tomorrow, so this fish is completely normal, probably. It would
certainly prefer some of its own kind though.
