View Full Version : fish of different size get along?

September 2nd 05, 09:59 PM
I added a 2nd fantail today to accompany the first one.
The new fantail is maybe 60% the size of the original one who had been
living there for a week.

I saw the big guy chasing it around, is he going to be a bully? Is
there any problem with the size discrepancy? I hope they are just
checking each other out. The smaller guy is not as good of a swimmer.

I went home and found the big goldfish chasing the little new guy
around all afternoon, it would seek it out and then have a chasing
frenzy.

Poor little guy. What I have done is seperated the bully and let it
sit in the net for 15 minutes, it was no fun for him.
I added a 3rd fantail and then reintroduced the bully. All seems to
be well so far but it might be just being dark.
Strange thing is that the victim now tries to follow the bully around!

Heh, reminds me of high school. It's generally a bad idea to have any
aquarium critters that vary greatly in size, but if you do, it helps to
have lots of plants and rocks for the weakling to hide behind.
