View Full Version : Stocking My Aquarium

Good day to all!

I'm going to start stocking my aquarium this weekend. I want to create
a nice community environment. I'd kind of like to go with fish that
are indigenous to one area and I really like Cory's so I'm thinking
I'll have to go with a South American theme. Anyone know what kind of
fish I might find living in the same area as Cory cats in the wild?

My tank is 125 gallons, with a AquaClear 110 and a Penguin Double
Bio-Wheel (not sure the model but it's pretty big.)

Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Clark

P.S. - Nice to meet you all, this is my first time posting to the group
in about 5 years.

It might hekp if you test your water - if you have soft water an amazon
themed tank is easy but if you are working with hard water the choice is
more limited.
Cories don't thrive in new tanks so don't start with them.
How did you cycle the tank or have you got Biospira? Black neons or
pristella tetras are OK in newly cycled tanks.

There's a cool set of biotopes on the Monga Bay site.
http://fish.mongabay.com/biotope.htm. They list both plants and animals
for four different types of South American waters where tropical
aquarium fish are commonly found. There are corydoras catfish listed in
all four so you have a pretty broad choice.
