Hi

I've deceided to buy a Juwel Vision 260 and use it for a FOWLR system,
I wonder if I should buy one of those Eheim Professional wet dry
external filters , would this be better than using a sump system.
How should I go about getting the water to the filter, is it best to
use the Eheims plumbing , or I read some where about drilling holes in
the tank for water removal.

Is there any links for a guide to setting up a tank for various
filtering methods.

I'm not totally set on the Juwel yet but its the ideal size and it
comes with a cabinet and hood, ( not sure wether the filter included
is any good ). If any one knows of a similar priced setup and size (
48"x24"x24" would be better ) available in the UK perhaps that would
be better.

thanks

Tony

We've just got a similar size tank, and chose the Rena Aqualife series
over the Juwel, personally I preferred the trim and build, and the
accessories seemed to be higher specced. I got a ~48x20x24, they also
do a ~48x20x20. Go ours through Maidenhead Aquatics, who were doing a
special offer of tank + Filstar XP3 filter + 2*twin light fittings with
bulbs + 2 heaters for £585.

This explains the concept of the sump, and how it works. Be sure to read the
three articles linked at the base of this page. They are well written
discussions from Reefkeeping Online.

i dont like anything but wet/dry or refugium. i say if you have fish, go
wet-dry, if you have reef, start off wet-dry, convet to refugium after all
the money has been dumped into getting a stable system.
i have a diagram i sent out to the newsgroup of my wet/dry filter, take a
look for that subject line, you will see a way where you dont need to drill
anyholes in the tank by using a siphon box.
