I have recently set up a 90 gallon reef tank and am using a power compact unit
that utilizes 4 x 96w bulbs. (2 white & 2 blue). I will have the lights on a
timer with the blues starting and ending 1hour either way of the whites. My
question is do I have to set the lights to be on during normal daylight hours
similar to real time conditions where I live or can I set them to come on later
in the day so I can enjoy some viewing time in the evening. This may be a
stupid question but somehow I figured that it might be relevant. The tank has a
few clown fish, two damsels and bubble tip anenome. I amso have various
mushrooms and feather dusters. Nothing to exciting at this point. Any tips
would be appreciated :-)

Another option is to just use the use actinics 'afterhours' or some of the
newer UW LEDs can be placed around the tanks for effect lighting...
I keep my halides on for 8-10 hrs, and use low watt LEDs in the evenings til
around 11.

How effective is the LED lighting?
Is the LED 'fixture' DIY ?
If so, what color/size/how many/etc are the LEDs?
Thanks.

if you use the "super bright LED" then its very effective in lighting the
tank,
its not beneficial at all to your corals just a means of lighting.
