goldfish changed color

Hi,

I bought my 5 goldfish about a year ago. They have all gotten large and
beautiful (they were 10 cent feeders when I got them). One of them has
always been a beautiful bright orange color with only a few white markings
and white lips. Over the past few weeks, he has changed to totally white
with orange lips. He has no other orange markings now except for his lips.
It doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him, no fungus or anything, this
appears to just be a color change. Is this normal? If not, any
explanations? Thanks, Sarah

Normal. Not all goldfish will do this, but many do. Not to worry, as
long as you like white goldfish

I have one GF that I bought from Walmart three years ago that has turned
completely white. The fry from the same group of GF have always been white,
except that one has orange lips and eye brows. I suspect the original GF
that turned white may be the "mother".

I also have 9 feeders that I bought two years ago and one of then has turned
sort of a mottled white. It almost looks like a skin condition, but the fish
seems fine.

Well I don't think he is as pretty anymore, but I'll just keep him around
because he is still my baby. He used to look like a beautiful mini koi.
You never know, maybe he will change color again. Does anyone know if they
ever change color again after turning white?

I used to have a "panda" telescope. When I first saw him at the store, he
looked really cute with those black and white markings. After a while,
though, he turned completely white, exept for black tips on the fins. I had
him for two years. He grew really large, but always stayed white. I think he
was partially blind, for he didn't run away from approaching hand unless you
touch him. He was still a beautiful fish though.

So I would guess your fish will stay white.

I've heard of them changing back, but it's quite rare. Generaly white
is the end color.

Does that indicate that these color changes are not genetically
predetermined?
The million dollar question: Is there any way to prevent an orange goldfish
from becoming white?
