Hi,

Just thought I'd share with you all something I noticed about my
bettas. After my male got attacked by a fiesty female in the community
tank, his tail was pretty well shredded, and substantially shorter, so
I separated him - now it has been 3 weeks, and I can only see about 3mm
of new fin growth on the tail. I've noticed that every now and again
my females have a few tail splits and chunks missing, but they seem to
regenerate much faster! Usually within a few days, there is no
evidence that their was any tail damage!

My male is a veil tail I think, perhaps his tail grows back so slowly
because it is almost full length already? (if this is true, he has a
pretty short tail!).

When I had my mature male betta a decade ago his tail was completely
shredded by what I am sure was a female betta I had with him (the shredding
occurred overnight in the dark) and it did grow back fast. I guess what this
means is that there's something going on to the effect that there is minor
differences between betta's regrowth rates, which cause major consequences.
Good luck, and later!
