Cucumber

Hi everyone,

I have a 65 litre tank with goldfish, mollie and a couple of plecs.

They all absoloutly love cucumber.
I bought a couple of twirly metal things to sink it to the bottom of the
tank from eBay.
It takes about a day or so to go soft then over a period of about three days
they will eat it all.

(two pieces about 3 inches long)

I spoke to the guy in the fish shop today who said I should only leave
cucmber in the tank for one hour max then remove it.
He said it can contaminate the water and kill the fish.

What do y'all reckon?

I reckon he's right. Also 1 goldfish and 2 plecs is asking for
trouble possibly. Plecs can get a taste for goldfish slimecoats
when they get older, as well as stocking issues.

They're social/schooling fish too, so if it's just one in there, it's
pretty lonely. Don't forget that Mollies, technically speaking, prefer
water that leans to salty/brackish.

Thanks for the reply Lilly,
I wasn't very specific.
I have two plain goldfish, one larger fancy goldfish, one black molly, one
very small red-head goldfish with white body, two very tiny guppies and two
very small (about 1 inch) plecs. They all seem very happy together. The two
plain goldfish sometimes bully each other at feeding time but they all seem
to do there own thing.

For now. But as Geezer says, Tropicals + Goldfish = trouble ahead.

Getting a tank, maybe the same size, for the tropicals sooner rather
than later would be a good idea. Leave the goldfish in the 65, two in
that space would be very comfy. You can always build a rack out of
lumber so you can stack them, but only take up the same amount of floor
space.
