I have a 40G currently stocked with (4) Tiger Barbs (3) Clown Loaches and a
growing ple*co. I want to remove the stock of barbs and place a silver
angel in there that is not getting along with his tank mates in another
setting. Will the loaches pick him apart???? They seem happy being Moe,
Larry and Curly right now, but the new guy might change it?

I've never heard of clown loaches 'picking apart' a fish before... not
anything as big as an angel fish at least.
Now if you were getting rid of the loaches and keeping the barbs that
might be a different story.
Or maybe I'm just confused.

I knew the barbs were a no-no, but not too sure about the loaches.

Results will vary. Clowns and Angels have been reported to co-exist very
well *and* to not be compatible as the Clowns nip at the Angelfish's fins.
Like Larry Curly & Moe, Clowns are entertaining, but they also like to
entertain themselves. In a small tank such as 40g, I would tend to expect
the worst, and Plecs and Clowns are not fish which stay small (so that tank
is going to get even smaller ;~).

jmo, cause that's what you asked for :o)

The barbs will fin nip angels from my reading....the clown loaches from
my experience will eat the dead...they might also eat smaller fish...I
believe there have been postings on http://www.loaches.com/ about CL's
chewing habits....

I have 5 angels and 2 CLs (and assorted others) in a 90g, and have never
noticed any nipping. I'm not sure if it because they have more room or
really have no interest in each other.
