ETSS evo 500

I have been using this skimmer for about 9 months now, and Im just not happy
with the amount, and the look
of the skimate it has been producing. "green tea". Ive tried all different
adjustments and still cant seem to dial it in correctly. And from what
everyone has said is that this skimmer will definately pull sludge! I cant
seem to,though. And if its the pump you gonna inquire about, it is a C.S.L.
T3 velocity. Jimmy C. I know you had used this setup(maybe still do?). Can
anyone give some input? maybe J.C. if you read this?

Do quarter of a turn on the knob until the skimmer settles at about the
right level, and after that you will need to do 1/8 or 1/16 of a turn to
"fine tune". Based on what you described the bubbling level is a bit higher
then what you like, so do the fine tuning.

The T3 does about 700 GPH at 4' head, which pushes the upper limit of the
skimmer. I happen to like it that way because I have an 120g SPS tank and I
believe the requirement is pushing the 500 to its limit. ;p

You didnt indicate your tank size and livestock, so I cannot judge if you
such a pump or not.

Sorry , I have an 80 gallon reef about 90 lbs of LR mostly soft corals and
five or so LPS apxmtly 6 small-med. reef fish.. also I have tried the fine
tuning like you said but it seems like by the time the skimmer tunes in,(or
what I think it should be) the inner tube is coated with thick sludge and
now doesnt get the chance to ride all the way up to the collection cup and
its time to clean the riser tube and start all over again wiith the tuning!

That is a problem with all skimmers. In fact, it's the barometer I use to
know when it's time to clean my skimmer (DIY EV-240 knock-off).
I clean it and set it to get the foam I want. When that foam production
drops, it's time to clean not adjust. Then when you DO clean, you don't have
to re-tune the skimmer.

Thanks for your input JC. The only problem with not re-tuning, is that after
I clean the riser tube,
And then reassemble the unit, when I turn the pump back on the skimmer goes
crazy for about 5-10
minutes just foaming and overflowing into the collection cup, so I have to
open the gate valve all the way
to prevent this.Then(*#!?^*!)when it settles down, its back to
tuning!Anyway, thanks for all the help.

Next time when this happens, plug up the air intake instake under the water
level drops down. ;p

Just about every time often when the skimmer is restarted, the outlet pipe
work is still contain lots of air hence prevents a proper solid out flow
from the skimmer, hence makes the foaming within the skimmer to be higher
then normal.
