I have a 10 gallon tank with a pair of guppies. No fry yet but it's just
a matter of time.
I'd like to add something to cleanup the bottom of the tank but won't wipe out the impending fry.
Is there a small catfish or something else that will do the trick?

Depends what you mean by cleanup. Nothing eats fish poo except
bacteria, of course. You can put small cories like bronze cories
(Corydoras aeneus) in with guppies and they'll eat from the bottom and
leave the babies alone. You can also use mystery snails, and Otocinclus
for algae. Algae shrimp are also good for guppy tanks.

Remember that guppies will eat food from the bottom of a tank. I
haven't needed anything other than algae eaters in my guppy tank because
the guppies eventually find everything I feed.
