Hello fishy folks.
If anyone has an Eclipse system tank in their home, I urge you to get
up after you read this and take a gander at the transforner housing for
the fluorescent light fixture.
I have 3 system 3's (3gal), and ALL 3 have fine splits in the plastic
transformer housing. That would be the "block like thing" that hangs
down near the water's surface, in front of the motor for the filter.
It's white plastic on the 3 gal's.
2 of them have fine splits on the bottom of it..which hangs nearest the
water's surface. The 3rd has a split on the side of it, still close to
the surface.
The tops seem to always have condensation all over them (this is
normal) and those splits in the transformer housing are not good.
I contacted Marineland, and they are now aware that this is happening.
They are sending me replacements...no charge as they were still under
warranty (luckily), well 2 of them were.
I mentioned that I think it's too much of a coincidence that 3 out of 3
just split like that.
The lights are kept on a couple hours longer than normal (10 as opposed
to 8..according to Marineland), however, "Mr. Shneider" replied that
that little extra time shouldn't have made them split.
Being that these systems are still relativly new(not mine, but in
general), this problem may now just start showing up.
The oldest tank is 3 yrs old and the other 2 are just under a year old
(Mid October will be a year).
These splits range from very, very fine to wow...that's obvious. Also,
the reason I hadn't noticed it until recently was because I seem to
take the lid off the same way, same direction each time and the splits
couldn't be seen.
However, from a different angle they appeared right before my eyes.
So please folks, take off your Eclipse tank tops and look at the bottom
and sides of the transformer housing. Look at each side at different
angles under a bright light (Turn off the top's lights when doing
this). If you find splits...email Marineland's customer service right
away, or call them directly at:1-800-332-1266(USA). If they are still
under warranty, mention that as well. If not, and you have splits in
it..email them anyway because you to replace it, as it could be
dangerous.
This could be a widespread problem.

Thanks Tynk. I have a Eclipse 6. I will check when I get home. I
already had the power filter replaced once only a month after I bought
it.

Thanks for the warning. I have several small
Eclipse tanks, most not used unless I need a
hospital tank, but the 6 gal quarantine tank runs
all the time. I will definitely check all out.
