View Full Version : Minimal setup for 2 maroon clownfish

What would be a minimal FO setup for a pair of maroon clownfish ?
What kind of maintenance would be required other than quite obvious
regular top off of evaporated water compared to a regular fresh water
fish only tanks?

maroons get roughly 4-5 inches. for a pair, id say at least a 29 or bigger.
i have a pair of true percs in my 29 and they love it. maybe something a
little wider than a 29 since maroons get a lil bigger than pecs

29 gallons just for these two fish ?
I was hoping for something more like 10 gallons.
Other than the size of the tank - what would be the setup needed?
What kind of filtration for just two fish, what would the best
for decorations ? Do I need crushed shells for the bottom ?

eeehh... good luck on 10. i personally think thats too small. a 20 long
would be better than a 20 tall IMO. as far as filtration.. this isnt
something you wanna skimp on. even for a tank as small as this, no
especially for a tank this small, youd want a decent HOB filter + protien
skimmer. if you opt for HOB (mechanical) filtration only, be prepared to do
weekly water changes to keep your ammonia and nitrates down.

Of course 200 gallons would be even better than 20... I know that.
But I am askig for minimal setup. Anybody here kept clownfish
with success in tanks smaller than 29 gallons ? Please chime in.

Is trully skimmer a common thing in FO tanks ???
I was in understanding I need it when I have a reef tank.
Are you talking about FO tank or a reef tank ?

ahem. ive kept a mated pair of clowns in a 20 tall with no problems. a 20gal
will work, i was just saying a 20 long would be better. never said anything
about a 200 gallon :P

a skimmer, or some form of advanced filtration is a must for a healthy FO or
reef tank. trust me, you dont want to skimp on this.

Regardless of what size tank or species of fish, you can't under do your
filters, be they canister, or large internal's. I know of one bloke that
uses a two foot tank with bio-balls, and filter material, as a filter..
You also need a protein Skimmer, Sure you can do it on the cheap, minimal
expense, and the result will be dead fish..
This is the reason why most fish keepers, stay clear of marine, and stick
with tropical. Myself included.

I would expect from people giving me advices here to at least
keeping successful marine fish tanks on their own... please.
I am not going to take marriage counseling from a divorcee,
if you know what I mean ;-)
I have marine fish tank (over 2years now) and it is a reef tank,
with live rock, corals...
I was looking here for people WITH THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE
on keeping maroon clowns in a FO (not reef) setup...
Anybody here ?

I've had a pair of Percula clowns for two years, they mate every two weeks.
With a sand bed and some live rock they are doing fine. All I have is a
bio-wheel for
filtration. NO lights. 10 gal, no, 20 I think ok. Since they don't swim far
from their breading
spot, it doesn't really matter if it's 20 tall or 20 reg. Take the advice of
others with a
grain(pound of salt).

Sorry, I forgot to mention I also have a maroon clown and know its size.
Had him for 5 years and he is about 1/3 bigger than my Percs.

Yes, I am "total stupid" :-)
And I am here for an advice, but an advice from people who are successful.
Not from people who failed, like you. So please find a different
newsgroup because obviously you should not give people advice on
how to keep a successful marine tanks if you failed with your own tank
and now stay away from marine tanks at all. Stick to guppies instead!
Here is rec.aquaria.MARINE.misc newsgroup... if you have not noticed yet.

Who made you the moderator, Christ you really have got designs on yourself.
Your the last person to tell anyone what to do, Now run along back to the
trailer park where you no doubt fit right in,,
Or are you one of those people that likes to start an argument and then get
the ****s when you come up against your betters, and you sunshine are
inferior to me, your the one asking for help, and if you don't like the
advice, just ignore it, Better still **** off to a dedicated registered
forum and ask your little questions in the Newbee section.
Pathetic, really.
No wonder you're completely unemployable.

Is that the best you can come up with, I,m really surprised , I thought you
would have more then a simple One liner.
But even that's not correct, I keep Lace Angels, and have done for many
years,
But hay, you started this little disagreement, and now you want the last
word, not going to happen "sunshine"
And I,m only just starting to get warmed up.. The trouble is , people like
you , have your little one liners, and then run out of steam, Your simply
not up to my standard of debate.. In fact you lack an Testicular fortitude,
what so ever.
So next time you decide to berate someone, for simply trying to help, you
better hope it;s not someone like me you pick on, Now run along, Mummies
got your tea on the table.
And as I said ,
Pathetic, really.
No wonder you're completely unemployable.
