I know most reefers prefer the intensity of Metal Halide, or PCFs, but I
hear alot of NO, normal output flourescents users too... I'm guessing they
use T8 lights, and another guess is they are using DIY kinda deals....

Are NO lights, ie, for a 29g 30" wide, in a 4x40W 2-10k 2-actinic config, ok
for a reef???

All you NO light ppl, ring in with what you have over your smaller tanks...

I may be wrong but around here to get a 40w (32w in a T8) NO you have to get
it 48" in length. to fit over a 29 in NO I had to use 20w bulbs and
couldn't cram enough in the canopy to suite my needs. I went with PC over
my 29 and have 4x65w in it. it keeps a few select sps/clams/anemone but its
just enough for them to survive with minimal growth. lsp/softies do great
though.

24" VHO's staggered in the canopy would be another good choice as they come
in 75w.

How do you manage 4x65 over a 29. No fixture is made with that many, or
even 3. I've looked. The Coralife has only 2 and others only 1. I
would like more unless it requires some of the surprising electrical and
plumbing and carpenter skills that seem standard among reefers. I'm
better skilled at ordering stuff and spending a lot.

DIY probably, DS will have to elaborate, but I'm hoping to do a 2x65, and I
could only imagine how 4x65 would fit

sorry I didn't get back sooner to reply, been busy with the
family.............

like Marc pointed out, I picked up a retro that came with a 10"x25"
reflector that holds 4 PC bulbs. the wattage of PC bulbs is determined by
the ballast not the bulb.

its an easy fit and truth be know I have room for at least 2 more, but the 4
are doing great as is.

as some of you may know from my posts I like the more blue look and use 20KK
MH for the most part, so I went with 3 actinic and one 10KK on my 29. to me
its still very white even with this ratio, so who knows I might try to fit
another 2 actinics in there one day.
