Live rock, amazing stuff...

I recently introduced a mixture of Reef Bones, Base Rock and Live rock into
a new tank (started about a month ago). Following the introduction of Live
Rock, all sorts of life emerged; as one would expect. Snails, pods,
bristleworm, filaments collecting coral sand (to build conical towers in the
Sand ?...?), a Jellyfish looking creature about 2 mm in size (that swims
remarkably like a jellyfish too..).

The most intruiging character is only seen by the legs (if that's what they
are?). Between one and 4 legs protrude from cavities in the rocks (they've
moved to the "dead rock" too). We've seen around 6 sets of the creatures'
legs throughout the tank.

The legs could best be described as upto 2-3 cm long (about an inch), and
possibly longer inside the rock? The legs are about 1mm in diamter (1/25th
of an inch) striped, brown and white. The stripes appear equidistant at
about 1mm per stripe, perpendicular to the length of the leg. (IE. about 25
stripes from the tip of the leg to the uppermost portion. If I were to make
a guess, it would be a very shy starfish but am not sure. It's possible of
course that the protrusions do not all belong to the same creature.

Anyone have any idea what these things are?

Thanks

Chris

Thanks Marc, looking at online pictures of the Brittle Star, the legs are
not dissimilar. I'll keep popping in with a torch until I can ID the critter
late some night.. Funny how much more life you can see under a torch; past
bedtime.

PS. Don't let these posters who pop the occasional crack in your direction
get you down. As Roger Waters put it: "its the bravery of being out of
range".
