Hello Group,

I have a quick question for you all. I was following this group awhile back
and the conversations mentioned using a timer on a quick start ballast. So
here's my question. Can you use a timer if your ballast isn't a quick
start. I need to get my lighting under control on my reef tank but work
really odd hours so it can be hard to do. How does one know if their
ballast is quick start or not?

Well that's it for now. Thanks in advance.

As long as you don't have to push and hold a start button for the
lights to come on you have a rapid start system that can be
run with timer . If you must hold a button down for them to start
I don't know how you could make a timer work.

Thanks JR,

The lights in question have a rocker switch. It sometimes takes the lights
a couple seconds to get going and that's what I was wondering about as far a
quick start. I'll get a timer on it today. :-)

Just leave the rocker switch to on, and plug in the cords to the 3-pronged
timers. When the timer is in the ON position, power will go right through the
(already on) switch, and power up your lights. When the timer cycles to off,
the ballasts lose power.
