View Full Version : Wild night life

I think I'm missing most of the fun in my tank. This morning I found
that the anemone moved clear across the bottom of the tank. The
collection of empty shells in the dip in the middle were all exchanged
and there are entirely different ones, sure evidence of the hermits
playing musical chairs. The very small amounts of algae on the windows
have been licked clean. The pods around the heater are gone. Because the
lights were not yet on, half the corals were brightly colored,
especially in iridescent green, undoubtedly leftover glow from a wild
night. All polyps still tightly closed and hung over. It looks so
peaceful in the middle of day, just four little fish doing their thing,
but the critters really do come to life in the dark. The predictability
of my freshwater tanks makes them far less fascinating.

I dont know if you have heard of these, but there are MOONLIGHTS that you
can attach to your existing light fixtures. They run on one watt, and claim
to promote spawning and other nightly activity in your tank. Might be
something to look into if you ever decide you want to stay up till early
morning watching your tank...

I bought a set on ebay the other day and I really like them. I have them
pointed up towards the reflector in the canopy and they actually put off a nice
light that shimmers similar to MH lights. PLUS they have a "night vision" light
that is pretty cool too. You will see things that you had never seen before. I
paid $34 for them but if you were handy enough you could make them for a lot
less. All they reall consist of is L.E.D lights. Here is a link if anyone
cares.....http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=46314&ite

at the end it will work. Sorry for causing a scene.....lol
