View Full Version : Lots of little feather dusters

Over the last few months, I have been getting LOTS of small white feather
dusters growing over most of my live rock.
Is this a GOOD sign, bad sign or what? What should I do? I do like them, if
it makes any differeance, I just am not sure if I should be concerned.
I do have several peices of coral that these are attaching themselves to and
that DOES annoy me.
I VERY rarely feed tank, and my fish (only several damsels and a goby
watchman) appear healthly. I see very little stuff coming out of my skimmer.
I have groups of algae, but nothing really to eat it, but the tank is by NO
means over grown with algae and the front glass needs scraping once every
several weeks to a month.
I have NOT tested water for a long time. but otherwise, things seem very
healthly. I did "loose" 3 fish about two - three months ago, they all looked
heathy several days before. I THINK my cat got them as the covers had been
off for a while.
This is a 155 gal reef tank.
Thanks

the worms are no harm at all, if they are getting on your corals, just pull
them off and place them down on the substrate, they will spread here and do
filter the water somewhat.

A few months ago I had the same thing, it looked like someone took handfuls
of featherdusters and splattered them all over the tank. Today I have a
dozen or so that have slowly been growing, but many of the others have
disappeared. There must have been hundreds in the beginning.

ya, i have hundreds upon hundreds, growing on various rocks now, theyre
good, good sign of life. i didnt know you could pull them off, cause mine
ard hard worms, having hard white tubes, with hot pink and flourescent
orange type feathers. They seem to grow realy well in the more unlit areas
also. Would like to see a rock full of these things with Coralline filling
all the gaps, have one small rock that is getting like that and others
heading that way.
I am growing a reef from scratch, this is my thing. I wont add any major
pieces in my tank that overpower the mini reef i am growing. everything is
miniature, and real grown, not placed. i have added a few polyps and
mushrooms in hopes of them spreading too however. So i really like these
tube worms cause theyre the right size for my mini reef.
60 gal with 6 gal sump, 1/1/2 DSB, Lotsa Rock.
