Hi,

I was at the fish store tonight and noticed about half the tanks had air
stones running in them.

I always wondered about this. In most of my readings, airstones are not
discussed for sal****er tanks. So I'm a bit confused. You need to
oxygenate the water, right? The filter return agitating the surface and my
protein skimmer serve this purpose, no?

So why did the lfs have airstones running?

TIA
Phil

One reason they can create water movement in awkward areas of the tank,
and help eliminate dead spots.

Helps agitate water in awkward places, eliminates dead spots.

In addition, some people like the looks of the air bubbles. And I must
admit I've seen some pretty spectacular tanks with fine air stones used .
Although, i personally think it creates too much of a hassle with all the
salt build up due to splashing water.
