I am in the process of setting up a reef tank 48x15x12. I intend to stock
mainly inverts and Soft corals, using deep sand bed 3 inches. But to my
shock and horror when I went to inquire about the price of live rock I was
astonished, as I rekon I would need approx 40/50 pounds.

Any one out there got some cheap LR.

See if you can get some base rock, use this (guess) on the base.... then use
live rock on top of this. You can get base rock for abour £6 per kilo. I
went a little further and used reef bones (not disimilar to tufa) at the
base, then a layer of base rock, then live rock.

Still cost a small fortune though..

Might be worth looking into making your own aragonite rock. See garf.org
for further details. You'll probably still need a little live rock and/or
live sand to seed your tank if you make your own rock.

e-mail Captain Jer at www.reeferrocks.com and let him check on shipping
prices, his live rock prices are reasonable but shipping is going to hurt,
maybe he can help?????
