Would that not be treated with some kind of fire suppressant chemical? I'd
have thought it would be less than ideal but clearly its not killing your
fish so it must be OK - interesting!

I generally make a test filter from each new batch to be sure. You can also
look for indications that it is allergy free or some such wording.
