I would say plankton, and I fed my tank phytoplankton every other day for the 6
months that I had my Flame Scallop. However, it did die finally.

they are filter feeders of plankton in the water. i feed mine directly with
phytoplankton ever so often and the tank about twice a week and have kept
them for many years this way.

I've had a flame scallop about 6 months now, feed about once or twice a week
with invert food and/or phytoplankton. he's happy as a clam....er, scallop.
