View Full Version : How much to charge

I want to sell my reef system, and need to figure out how much to
charge for everything. I was thinking $2,500 for the following (the
initial setup cost me *at least $5K* 3 years ago):
180 gallon Oceanic tank, custom oak stand and canopy, 3x250 metal
halide lighting, 2X72" actinic lights, 2 Red Sea Berlin protein
skimmers (1 classic, one HOT), 175 pounds of Manono rock, misc
mushrooms, misc softies, misc polyps, 6 assorted damsels, misc snails
and hermit crabs, 150 pounds live sand, misc chemicals, salt for 250
gallons, misc pumps (Mag 12 and various powerheads, plus whatever is
on the main tank, I am not sure), various tools and so on. I also have
a 30 gallon breeder I am using for a sump, plus a never-used 40 gallon
breeder that could be used as a sump, plus a 37 gallon tank I used as
a sump.
Anyway, I want to clear everything out, was wondering what would be a
fair price for everything.

Andrea, I can't really comment on the price but I'd like to know where you
are, if you're willing to part, and most importantly... Why are you giving
up?

no offence but used tanks (even a few months old) go for way less.
you'll be lucky to get half what your asking IME.

At the Atlanta reptile show, Glass Cages were selling 180g dbl OF for $225,
glass, $375 for acrylic, are those good prices?

Well, it isn't just the tank (which is RR), it's the entire reef,
including some pricy extras.

Mort,
I am in Maryland, not willing to part at this time. I can keep the
reef up and running, it's just that I would prefer not to.
I am giving up because I have very limited time, and I am not taking
care of the reef that way I would like to, given the assorted demands
on my time.
