I have high PH and some of the plants are yellow, but the fish are happy.
The pond is shallow due to proximity to children, so it gets warm and string
algae out of control even with barley pellets. Has anyone used the barley
extract with any success?

$$ You can green them up by adding some Potash to the water, about 1 heaping
Tbs. per 1000 gallons. Also adding Ironite to the potting soil helps keep
them a deep green. It also works for garden and tropical house plants.

brow1,
I've had terrible string algae problems all summer especially in my
stream and it has just reached by pond. I cleaned the stream out last
weekend and added some barley straw extract. It doesn't appear to have
made any difference to the string algae in the pond, but the stream is
still clear. If I hadn't added the extract then I would have expected
to be seeing string algae in the stream by now.
It's too early for me to be able to recommend it, but I suspect from
obverations above that it is working and I'll have a better idea at
the weekend.
