Hi,

Most of online LR vendors I see sell in 25-30-50lbs boxes, I'd like to
diversify a rocks a bit, for example: 20lbs fiji, 15 tonga, 10 something
else, etc..... Even base rock, I definitely do not need 50lbs for my 55G
tank :) I'd go to LFS, but they sell only fiji for $8/lbs -
RIDICULOUS!!!!! so LFS aside, are there online vendors that would sell LR in
"odd" quantities.
Another thing, I'd like to get LR from at least 4 different vendors.
Theoretically, I can get more diverse life forms by getting LR from
different "buckets" :)

Thanks in advance :-)

Nope, you need 55lbs of LR for a 55g tank.

1lb per gallon for a good bio filter.

Make friends with your lfs and get your hands on the best pieces when they
come in :)

Actually you need 2 to 2.5lb rock per gallon can go as high as 3.5 times but
not recommended to exceed that.
not pound for pound but hey every one has an opinion

PS: I am just getting rid of my 350 gallon tank your welcome to buy any
quantity you like.

1 lb per gallon is on the low side.
Plus you have to consider the type of rock.

Tonga and Florida Aqua cultured for instance are very heavy.

And Figi is a relatively light rock.

But I agree on the diversity of having different type of rock in your tank..

My bad, I buy it by the kg not lb and the beer confused me :), I have 1KG
(2.2lb's) per Gallon

I guess different people have different opinions... on reefcentral I found
that 1-1.5 lbs per gallon is optimal, you guys are saying that 2-2.5 lbs per
gallon , I just wish there was a chart of sorts that would factor in the
density of the rock. For example Tonga's 40 lbs would actually take less
space in tank than Fiji 40 lbs.

Has anyone tried to figure out Gallons vs. Volume (spacial) of rock?

Do you think much survives the trip from UK to US? :)
