View Full Version : need old 14" light bulb replacement

I have set up an old tank and need to replace the fluorescent bulbs in
two hoods - the fixture works fine but the bulbs are 30 years old and
weakening. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a 14" replacement bulb
(I need two). The present bulbs are labeled Sylvania Enhance F14T8-EN.
The F14T8's I find are all 15" bulbs. Is anyone aware of a source for
14" bulbs - the lighting fixtures are otherwise in near mnt shape,

Thanks for any suggestions.

If 30 years old, then they are probably not electric start ballasts (you
need to hold the button down). That alone makes it worth replacing them
to be able to work on timers (or make them auto-start by wiring a
condenser coil into the circuit, details in thekrib somewhere).
Otherwise, you'll have a bit of a hunt on your hands for a 14" bulb, and
not much selection on what you find. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I was hoping to avoid a retrofit, but fear that may be what I have to
do. Was just hoping that there was a supply of bulbs out there. They
are the push starters which doesn't bother me. 13w powercompacts is a
good suggestion if I ned to go there. I'll keep nosing around for some
14" first tho.
