Since I am new to this coral tank hobby I am finding myself needing to ask
questions all the time.

Today I picked up 20kg of Live rock, I took along with me the recordings I
done of the water in my tank, the guy there said the KH levels in my tank
were a little too low and I should get some suppliments to help raise the
levels from 70 where it is now to 125-150. He told me of a brand but with
all the excitment of getting the live rock I forgot what he was talking
about. The CA levels I got from testing the water was around 420 on the 1st
day, and 410 on the 4th day, the KH was 110 on the first day and now 70 on
the 4th day.

So what are some brand names and product types that i should be looking for
to help correct this KH level ? and is there a way of getting the tank to
sustain the KH levels without having to manualy add it ?

Hi Andrew,

What you are likely referring to is dKH. If you can get your readings to be
between 8 and 11 dKH, or 2.86 - 3.89 meq/L, you'll be matching Natural Sea Water
(NSW). Some people even go higher, but there is a limit to how high you can go
safely.

I use ESV's B-Ionic, a two-part liquid additive. It has to be dosed daily, to
keep your levels of Alkalinity and Calcium up.

That IS the long term solution. Unless you want to spring for a Calcium
Reactor. Even then, you still have to test daily until the reactor is dialed
in.

There are no shortcuts to maintaining Alk/Ca.
