We are planning to move far away soon and have to find a new owner for our
10" healthy goldfish. He is 7 yrs old and currently lives in a 10 gallon
tank with plenty of room to swim around comfortably.
I dont want to put him thru moving so I want to find a new home for him. My
wife suggests a friend's house who has a pond in the yard, but I am afraid
he will get eaten by something or starve. I say it's best to give the GF
away in the tank so he can stay in his familiar environment and not get
shocked.
What's the best thing to do? Thanx,

Is is a fancy or a common? I would not want to put a fish who is seven
and has always been in a tank out in a pond. If I had to get rid of my
fish I would prefer to give the tank with them as well (besides a ten
gallon tank is not really that expensive and you wont have to move with
it and possibly end up breaking it) Why not post the general area where
you live, maybe someone here will be able to help you out : )

He is a common feeder fish who is living large :-)
Good news, I asked my neighbor and he had goldfish and may be interested in
taking my GF whe we move, tank and all.

Great that you found someone to take him on.
By the way 10 Gallons for a 10" fish is too small.
I'd suggest your neighbour upgrading that.

I'm wondering why you can't take the fish with you. How far are you
moving? Would you have room for him? I go to school and have travels
plenty of times with my fish, and they seem find with it. I think that
moving a 7 year old goldfish wouldn't be too difficult for the fish.
Goldfish are very hardy and adapt quite well, especially if it's 7
years old.
What I do when I move the fish is put them in a plastic bag and put the
bag in one of those styrofoam coolers. I line the cooler with a few
towels first for extra padding. I don't seal the bag because I still
want air to get in. What I do is take some tape and tape around the
top of bag so that it is somewhat closed, but there is still a whole so
air can get in. I punch some holes in the lid of the cooler and put it
on and the fish have a comfy ride.
Just trying to help out in case you decide to keep your 7 year old
goldfish...
