View Full Version : Decent In Sump Skimmer
Rick

Hey all, long time no see...
I am getting ready to purchase or build a small sump, maybe 10-20 gallon. I
would like to put a skimmer in it and I am having difficulty researching.
I was wondering if anyone had any luck, good or otherwise, with any models.
Thanks for the info.

Rick,
You could use an Aqua C Remora on your 55g, or even a Remora Pro. If you want
to hang it on the back of your 55g. If you prefer to put it in the sump, you
could use the Aqua C Urchin or Urchin Pro.
The benefit of the Pro models is that if you upgrade, the skimmer is rated up to
125g and you'll not have to buy a larger skimmer.
Can you overskim? Yes. Is it bad? Not in my experience. The more DOCs you
pull out, the less A-N-N cycle can take place, which is a good thing.

The Urchin will fit under 27" easily. I think it is 18" tall.
The next wave of skimmers would be the Aqua C EV-series. I have the EV-200
under my 55g, and have enough room to remove the collection cup, but it would be
cutting it close in your 27" in vertical space.
The Euro Reef is considered the best of the best, and a number of guys in our
club have them. They are built solidly, and work amazingly well.

Euro Reef knockoff. Just as good if not better. Half the price.
