It's now the begining of the 3rd day of my new tank getting it's 20kg of
live rock, and at present the ammonia levels are still low, the no2 and no3
are also at the bottom of the scale. How soon before the crazy cycle should
begin ? I also patched up the hole in my skimmer and it's still not removing
anything from teh water. The guy where I bought the live rock from said I
should be getting some action in it very soon.

I dont think you will be pulling anything out of the water until the 3rd or
4th week. Especially if the LR is cured.

Maybe put food in the tank every once in a while to break down and jump
start the cycle.

No bio to start it, no ammonia, no nitrite and no nitrate.

Ahhh ok.. The rock was witting in a holding tank for 4 days at the LFS. And
I kind of figured that a little food might help too so I put in a small
pinch of stuff, it didn't seem to last long as the little crabs and shrimp
that were in the rock came out and made good use of it. So it looks like a
waiting game for a while..

Another LFS recomended putting a bottle of live bacteria in the tank to push
things along too, what is your idea on that move ?
