Can you tell I've never "plumbed" before?
Am I supposed to use teflon tape inside the premade unions w/ gaskets (or o
rings- whatever)?
I'd think not but you never know....

<and I'd be getting ready for more plumbing 101 questions as the week
progresses...>

You can always use teflon tape with plumbing fittings.

It should be applied in the direction of the threads, so that when you screw it
in, the tape doesn't unwrap off the PVC. Three wraps around the pipe should
suffice.

You don't need teflon on the rubber gasket surface seals. You
primarily use the teflon tape on threaded connections and I always do.
You will find that they will seep or worse if you don't.
