View Full Version : Snowflake Eel

What size tank is best for a full grown Snowflake Eel? I currently have him
in a 20 gallon, but plan to turn my 50 gallon freshwater into a salt tank
soon. I was told over the weekend that even that was much to small. Also,
at full size, would it be safe to keep clowns, and similar sized fish in the
same tank? If not my plan is to go with the eel, a yellow tang, and a
lionfish.

Thanks guys.

I don't know nearly enough to say if that is a workable and safe plan
or not, but the Tang, L.Fish, and Eel would look fantastic together,
assuming they can all coexist in a 50 gal.

a full grown snowflake eel will get to about 24" or so and needs at least a
100+ gallon tank IMO.

IME they get along with most fish as long as the fish leave them alone and
stay out of their 'hole' in the rocks. they are agressive towards other
eels and are quite hard to keep in the tank unless you have a snug fitting
canopy.

when kept fed they dont go after tank mates like other morays but when it
gets to grown size i dont think i'd trust it with small clowns and such.

FWIW with the yellow tang and the lion in the same tank you need at least a
100+ gallon. and yes they will all do fine together.
