I've already read that one should always completely dry the skimmate
cup before returning it to the skimmer. I haven't argued the point
before, but I still wonder why this is. Anyone enlighten me?

I never knew that. I just wash the cup, and while it is wet place it back
on skimmer. Am I in trouble?

I've never heard that before. I just clean it daily and reinstall.

probably depends upon what you wash it with, and what's in that.
