IS it Brown algae or slime? IF its slime CHEMI CLEAN is a safe additive
to your tank to get rid out it... if its Brown Algae, Get a clean up crew
from your local LFS

I had a similar problem on my tank. To get rid of it I only turned on the
light in the aquarium for just a few hours each day. It worked, after about
a week the brown algae had disappeared. Now it's back to regular lighting.
I don't have any corals so that was ok for me to do. To prevent its
reoccurrence, I went to the local pet store and they recommended getting
Araga Milk to promote more "beneficial algae" that's purple in color. I've
been using that for a couple of days now. Too early to tell if it actually
works. Will see how things are after a couple of weeks.

I have a similar problem. a couple of serious water changes and a brush
with an old toothbrush removed the most of it. reducing the lighting worked
for me and a clean up crew of 6 turbo snails and a few hermit crabs.
problem is nearly all the algae is gone so what do I feed the snails etc..
